Review: Scary Movie 6 (2026)

Score: 92 / 100

Against all mathematical and cinematic odds, Scary Movie 6 is a triumphant, tear-inducing return to form. After the franchise was left for dead following the disastrous fifth entry in 2013, the original masterminds—Keenen Ivory, Marlon, and Shawn Wayans—have returned to the writers' room. The result is a lightning-fast, unapologetically politically incorrect masterpiece of parody that earns its place right alongside the iconic first two installments.

Why It Scores a 92/100

The film works so well because it moves away from the lazy pop-culture references of the late-2000s sequels and returns to sharp, structural genre deconstruction. By targeting a decade's worth of "elevated horror," the Wayans brothers find a goldmine of pretension to systematically destroy.

1. The Returning Legends

The undisputed soul of this movie rests on the shoulders of Anna Faris (Cindy Campbell) and Regina Hall (Brenda Meeks). Their comedic chemistry hasn't rusted a bit. The moment Brenda dies within the first ten minutes—only to reappear in the next scene with absolutely zero logical explanation—the audience knows exactly what kind of ride they are on. Marlon Wayans also slips back into the role of Shorty with effortless charm, providing the film's most surreal, laugh-out-loud visual gags.

2. Brilliant Genre Targets

Instead of just copying scenes frame-for-frame, Scary Movie 6 brilliantly lampoons the tropes of modern horror heavyweights:

  • The "Elevated Horror" Suture: A running gag targets Ari Aster and Jordan Peele style thrillers, turning slow-burn psychological dread into broad, physical slapstick.

  • The Longlegs Spoof: A sequence tracking a bizarre, whispering serial killer completely derails into a chaotic, high-energy dance-off.

  • The Terrifier Sequence: Art the Clown is thoroughly clowned in a sequence featuring genre veteran Felissa Rose that perfectly balances extreme gore with ridiculous, textbook Wayans humor.

Notes

Gags Per Minute

9.5 / 10

If a joke misses, three more hit you before you can blink.

Cast Chemistry

10 / 10

Faris and Hall are an all-time great comedic duo.

Pacing

8.5 / 10

Explodes out of the gate; slows down slightly in a mid-movie K-Pop bit.

The Verdict: Scary Movie 6 doesn't care about being prestige cinema, and that's exactly why it succeeds. It is a loud, chaotic, and relentlessly funny celebration of theatrical comedy that proves the Wayans brothers haven't lost their touch. It's the funniest movie of 2026.
