Absolute Batman Animated Series

Has Batman headlined enough animated TV series at this point? Not in the eyes of Absolute Batman readers who desperately want to see the bold, mega-popular reinvention of the Dark Knight brought to life on screen.

Well, fans are finally getting their wishes granted. However, the Absolute Batman show is not the only major DC project coming to the small screen.

Absolute Batman TV Series Is In The Works

As the popularity of Absolute Batman continued to grow, impacting the comic book industry in astonishing ways, demand to see an official adaptation became commonplace. DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation can confirm that an animated show based on the smash hit series is in development.

Scott Snyder, the author of Absolute Batman, will serve as executive producer and showrunner in what will be his first major TV project. The series' main artist, Nick Dragotta, is also on board as a producer.

The project was officially announced this morning during the World’s Finest Animation: DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation Showcase at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France. DC Studios' Co‑Chairman and Co‑CEO Peter Safran and Warner Bros. Animation President Sam Register were featured in the panel, along with artists from Warner Bros. Animation present to help share exclusive sneak peeks at what is next in store for the DC side of things at the studio.

Absolute Batman is a best-selling ongoing series that follows a version of Bruce Wayne who is a working-class construction worker with a living mother inspired by his father's senseless murder to use his genius intellect and above-average physique to wage a war on crime in Gotham City. It is part of the Snyder-overseen Absolute Universe, which reinterprets classic DC characters without their traditional advantages, hence stripping Wayne of his wealth.

Joker and Krypto-Centered Series Are Also In Development

The upcoming Absolute Batman TV show is just one of the exciting projects announced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios at Annecy. There are also two animated series in development following a couple of other heavy hitters in the comic book world.

Joker: Laugh Riot is a series rooted in the concept of the Clown Prince of Crime's dependency on Batman, seeing the psychopath take matters into his own hands to track down the Dark Knight's killer while pondering his purpose in life without his archnemesis. The first-ever DC series presented in the Japanese anime style, the show will be executive produced by Jim Krieg and directed by Yasuhuro Aoki.

Also announced is a children's program called Krypto, which offers an inside look at what the super-powered canine is up to when he is not fighting evil with the likes of Superman or Supergirl, which appears to involve tagging along with a group of unsuspecting criminals, according to the released synopsis. The animated series, from executive producer C.H. Greenblatt, will be the third headlined by the furry superhero, following Krypto the Superdog, which aired on Cartoon Network from 2006 to 2007, and Krypto Saves the Day, a series of shorts released as a follow-up to 2025's Superman.

Warner Bros. Animation's current slate of DC projects includes Bat-Fam, Batman: Caped Crusader, Batwheels, Creature Commandos, My Adventures with Superman, Teen Titans Go!, and more. The studio also has a trilogy of animated Batman films coming out that are inspired by DC's famous Knightfall storyline.

The Absolute Batman TV show does not yet have a set release date.
